PC or Mac?

By

Mac OS X and Windows have been at war with each other since personal computing began. Each system offers its own set of benefits, which help to offer users of each system advantages in certain tasks. With Windows and Macs offering similar products, it is difficult to know which one to choose.

Macs have long been touted as the graphical mastermind of computing. Photographers and videographers often use the machine to edit and manipulate their media. It is powerful in this regard, but with a Windows machine able to offer the same capabilities, it is hard to ignore that PCs may be just as able to handle this large tasks. Due to the large amount of hardware options available which can be installed into any Windows machine, PCs can be just as efficient, if not more so, than Macs. Purists will say that Macs are the way to go, but with most editing software available on both systems, either option is a good one for graphical manipulation.

PCs are cheaper. They are much cheaper than a Mac. Computers with the same specs can be half the cost of the Mac. Although the iMac and the Macbook Pro look nice, their functionality does not constitute such a high price. There is little room for upgrades, and their is little choice when configuring a machine. PCs are the opposite. They provide a wide variety of parts that can be used to construct the computer, and are cheaper to purchase. PC wins.

Gaming is hardly available on Macs. Most games are played on Windows machines, making a PC a no brainer. Although Macs can now run Windows, it takes some tinkering which can be daunting for the average computer user. If gaming is what your machine is primarily used for, PC wins again.

Mac has a benefit of being more secure. There are not nearly as many viruses available for the Mac, and mal-ware rarely affects the system. PCs can be a nest of malicious programs stealing information. Mac wins here.

Overall, the system that is chosen depends on the use. If graphics are the reason, Macs may be the way to go. If it is for gaming, then Windows provides the best choice. If used for a wide variety of needs, a Windows machine is the best option, as it provides the most versatility for a lower cost.

Interesting hub. Though I must dissagree with the price of mac and pc machines. I have looked in all the major electronic retailers and have never found a laptop that has all the functionality that a macbook pro has, at less cost, they are actually more! Another thing to be noted is the fact that a mac software will not slow down over time, so if you want your computer to last longer then go for a mac. My old mac book pro is a core 2 duo and i have had it for 3 years and it runs faster than my two year old i7 pc, which was top of the market.

Thanks for the comment.

If you are shopping for a pc at a retailer, that is the first problem. It is much better to go through a local independent retailer. As mentioned, it is also much more likely to get malware and asware on a PC. I bet if you reinstalled Windows on that machine, it would work just as when you first got it.

You are right, if I formatted my PC it would work better, but the hassle to clear out the 560+ GB of files stored in my PC would be insane, and if done by others costly.

I should check local retailers for PC's that is a really good idea, thanks!

Overall your Hub is really well done, it doesn't have bias unlike other ones, which is excellent!

No problem!

If you are up for it, you can also build your own. That can save even more money. I have another hub that talks about doing that. If you are really in love with MAC OS, there are forums that's will show you how to build one with certain hardware specs. The legality if doing so is questionable, though

Yeah. You hit the nail on the head. There is a boy in every man, who likes to not only admire the toy, but also turn it up side down, and inside out on the morrow. I would be bored without that versatility in a PC. I don't think twice when it comes to deciding. I'll smash it up and smile again when I get it going. A PC it is indeed. Thanks for sharing. Cheerio.

Thanks for commenting!

Upgrading and modifying the hardware is one of the biggest reasons why I stay a PC user.
